Community-led heritage conservation in processes of rural regeneration

Purpose The authors report a study of heritage conservation linked to rural small-town regeneration in Aotearoa New Zealand. purpose this is answer the question: how, with limited local resources, do residents and administrators small settlements conserve historic processes regeneration? Design/methodology/approach This research based on an analysis physical objects (buildings, artefacts landscapes), associated regulatory arrangements, archival material, news media reporting, community group newsletters photography. use river-side town Rakaia its environs Te Waipounamu/the South Island Zealand question. Findings found that context volunteers, supported by businesses central government, can contribute positively interpretation as part wider activities. Originality/value There only writing links between conservation, development towns. To advance debate, combine ideas about community-led management concepts drawn from studies, particularly multifunctional space paradigm. allows us explore rapid change.
